Article Written by: Brenda LaRose

The author of StrengthsFinder 2.0, Tim Rath, has just launched his latest release, EAT MOVE SLEEP, and it has been getting a lot of rave reviews. Rath is an influential international best-selling author who is also a senior scientist and advisor to Gallup.

Rath has experienced some significant personal genetic health issues for the last 20 years and has had to make major changes to his diet, exercise routine, and sleep patterns in order to remain healthy. He shares some proven and practical ideas from his own research and passions. Also, he advocates that to have a high level of performance, you must get up and move around every 20 minutes.

He provides great suggestions on how to make smarter & healthier food choices as well as getting a better night’s sleep. He includes some well researched facts indicating that many illnesses including heart disease, stroke, diabetes and even some cancers are preventable.

This is a must read for professionals who lead a busy life and who continually strive to perform at the highest level.

I really enjoyed this book and read it, coincidently, a few weeks after I had a conversation with the Chair of a board who was considering two in-house candidates to succession plan their current CEO. The Chair shared that the board had some concerns about the health of the stronger of the two candidates and that they were going to approach him to discuss their concerns related to his lack of energy due to inactivity and poor diet choices. They felt he would have to be totally committed to a complete lifestyle change if they were going to promote him to the CEO role.

Organizations are becoming more and more involved and concerned about the health of their top leaders. Research efforts continue to focus on the health impacts of diet, exercise and sleep on an individual’s work performance. It is believed that to perform at the highest levels, executives need to commit to improving their health, in the same way as many top athletes do.

This book has a website where you are encouraged to create your own personalized plan and use the 'Reference Explorer' to learn from more than 400+ academic journals, books, articles and notes. I encourage you to visit the site: http://www.eatmovesleep.org/.
